Opinion, but a good one, is that the greatest chardonnays in America come from Russian River in Sonoma, CA. Charles Heintz's vineyard is ground zero great chardonnay in Russian River. If your goal is to make an exquisite chardonnay, you start there. Then you do everything right including getting Mother Nature to ripen the grapes perfectly. "Yummy" seems to be the only word that describes this delicious chardonnay.
A very famous wine journalist tasted this wine and wrote in her notepad, "yummy". I asked if that was a "technical" tasting term and she replied, "Yes, for wines I really love." This wine started at ground zero for great Chardonnays, ripened to perfection during a great vintage and spent 24 month developing its complex, intriguinging personality in new French oak barrels. The wine is in perfect balance with rich color, opulent texture and endless aromas of honeysuckle, lemon curd, melon and minerality.
I love great Chardonnay. I decided to try to make one. A seriously good one, which meant everything needed to be done perfectly: the right vineyard, the most exquisite barrels, 24 months of loving pampering before bottling. This wine is so complex, aromatic and balanced, it makes you sigh when you sip it.
Food Pairing Notes
Nothing. This wine is such pure pleasure to enjoy, the only pairing recommended is a fire, a breath-taking sunset or shared with someone you love. No food required, just a beautiful wine glass.
